Diet Sodas and Excitotoxins

by suzy on August 14, 2011

I have to share with you an article I saw on  Organic Authority, check it out please, they have good info.  This one was written by Kimberly Stakal and it’s called “Diet Soda Makes You Fat”.  Well, this is true and I’ll give you the gist of the article, but I have to tell you something even more frightening.  Diet soda is poison and it damages brain cells and can bring on early Alzheimers.  I feel pretty safe saying this since I know someone personally who drank massive amounts of diet soda on a daily basis and she is now barely able to function.  She is 68, not 88!

diet anything is not good..

Here’s what Stacy had to say, and sure it makes sense

But it does get more serious than that. Overall, all soda drinkers (both sugar-sweetened and diet) gained weight compared to a control group that did not drink soda. But those drinking only diet soda gained more weight than those drinking regular soda. Hmm. So much, in fact, that researchers concluded there is “a 41% increase in risk of being overweight for every can or bottle of diet soft drink a person consumes each day.”

Why does diet soda make us fat? It’s not unlike low-fat foods, which also make us fat.  Here are some popular theories:

  • People allow themselves to binge on other foods thinking they can “balance it out” by drinking diet soda later. Wrong, silly. You’re not balancing anything out. You’re just binging. Try drinking water and eating less instead.
  • Putting any food or drink into our stomachs (that isn’t water) triggers our gastric juices to get flowing for digestion, which makes us feel hungry. It’s like revving the engine for digestion. When we tell our bodies to get ready to absorb nutrients from a diet soda that’s actually delivering nothing (but a whole lot of chemicals), our brains get the message that we need to eat something to fill this now revved up engine.
  • The tongue recognizes “sweet” flavors as sugars or carbohydrates, and it signals the body to start producing insulin to help regulate blood sugar levels. Well, when we drink diet soda, there is sweet flavor but no actual sugar going into the system, so our bodies now crave sugar as our blood sugar levels have become unstable. This brings on food cravings and sugar cravings in particular. For this reason, diet soda also causes diabetes and pre-diabetic conditions. Awesome.

read about aspartame

Ok, thank you Stacy, for those who were still in denial or mesmerized by marketing and commercials.  And please, click on those links about fat and diabetes to see some other good articles.

More important I want to educate you to Dr. Russell Blaylock.  Look for some of his lectures on You Tube because his book, Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills is probably a bit too scientific.  In fact his lectures are also quite dense.  He is the expert and he can tell you all about aspartame in diet sodas and other products!   Yikes..

Did you know that “natural flavoring” on a label can contain from 20-60% MSG?  And hydrolyzed vegetable protein sounds like something safe, maybe even healthy because it’s made from a plant..NOT!  They take vegetables that have high levels of glutamate and boil them in vats of acid.  This is followed by a process of “neutralization” with caustic soda.  A brown sludge rises to the top, that is scraped off and dried into a powder that contains three known excitotoxins: glutamate, aspartate and cystoic acid which when ingested converts to cysteine.  If I am not mistaken that is highly inflammatory.

Excitotoxins are chemicals that stimulate your taste buds and make your food taste better. The large food conglomerates add them to most low fat foods because they are typically tasteless; soups, gravy, salad dressings, and lots of frozen foods.  Blaylock says they are in everything from tuna to canned baby food, which is really scary!  You see the worst part is that your taste buds get so blown out that the only thing that tastes good is more excitotoxins..you know, like the poisonous flavorings on potato chips.

As if you haven’t heard enough, I have to tell you one more thing.  This is not to freak you out or disgust you.  And please how often do you hear people say “Oh, I don’t know anymore, one week they tell you this is good for you and the next week it’s not, I figure if I made it this long I can eat whatever I want”. Well you can, but you will seriously effect your quality of life and you best decide if it is worth it.

Diseases of the nervous system or more prevalent than ever before.  Liquid excitotoxins,

a migraine means something

like NutraSweet or Splenda are instantly absorbed into the blood stream and cross the blood brain barrier and accumulate. These build-ups in the brain are linked to strokes, hypoglycemic brain damage, migraines, dementia.

I know, this is not something you want to hear, but listen…knowledge is power.  The more you know, the better chance you have to protect yourself and to avoid being a victim of a medical system that is like quicksand.  Ask anyone who is on medications, the more you take the higher the risk of complications and side effects, not to mention what they do to your digestive tract and your wallet.  Would you like to wake up every morning, well rested and feeling GREAT ?

You have probably heard enough.  Next time we’ll talk about something good, like whole foods that taste good and are nutrient dense.  Feed your brain, you will be glad you did.
